The recent episode of killing of almost 15 and injuring nearly 100 persons by Punjab Police in the metropolitan city of Lahore is very tragic. According to my opinion both government and Dr. Tahir ul Qadri are responsible for the loss of precious human lives. But who should be more responsible is clear. The side with power should be more responsible as there is a saying that with power comes great responsibility.

The killing of people  has been described in Quran in crystal clear way:

"On that account We ordained for the Children of Isra`il that if any one slew a person – unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the land – it would be as if he slew the whole humanity: and if any one saved a life, it would be as if he saved the whole humanity. Then although there came to them Our messengers with clear (guidance), yet, even after that, many of them continued to commit excesses in the land." (5:32)

Now this the 21st century where the man has left far behind the culture of barbarism and savageness and researching on space technology to land on Mars and these incidents of mass violence by public and government both are a great dilemma.

In the democratic era the government should deal every opposition politically and sanity should prevail at all costs. Stick and Carrot formula should be applied but stick should never dominate over carrot. In the recent episode the incitement of public by Dr. Tahir ul Qadri to break the barriers and fight police is absolutely wrong but on the other hand government should have let the protestors reach the secretariat  of Minhaj ul Quran for recitation of Holy Quran for the martyrs of Model Town incident as some few thousands of people can't do anything against the government having all state machinery and army at its side, so why the government was in a state of fear and chaos.

The government invited violence by sealing the city of Lahore against few thousands of people. This is just very strange. I must say that here the ego and stick formula has clearly dominated over carrot policy. The persons sitting in the government have lost the patience so they left behind the politics of dialogue and peace.
