Typhoid fever is a worldwide common disease. It is also known as typhoid. It is an infectious fever caused due to a type of bacteria called Salmonella typhi (S. typhi). These bacteria live in water and dried sewages for many weeks.
Typhoid fever is caused due to contaminated food, drink and water. When people use eatables that are contaminated, the bacteria enter the body, the intestine, and then into the blood stream. After reaching the blood, they attack the lymph nodes, gallbladder, liver, spleen, and other parts of our body.
About 3% to 5% people can become carriers of these bacteria and continue to release these bacteria for many years through stools. Some people have mild illness but some people become long- term carrier. Those patients play an important role in spreading this disease.
The symptoms of this fever usually occur within 1 to 3 weeks after disclosure of infection. It starts from mild and can become severe. The symptoms develop in typhoid are high fever sometimes it may be up to 104 degree, Nose bleeding and fatigue. The patient complains of abdominal pain as they feel Lethargic.
They have Poor appetite and may have Diarrhea or Constipation. Sometimes other symptoms may also occur like the patient may feel , may have and chills. The patients of typhoid fever also feel . Another symptom that is developed rarely is Attention deficit where the person cannot concentrate on one thing.
In typhoid some patients also experience the delirium and mood changing. Psychological changes also occurred during this fever like person has symptoms of Hallucinations (difficulty in perception).
Typhoid can be treated with antibiotics to kill the bacteria. Some fluids and electrolytes may b given through body veins. Doctors suggest the patient to drink the uncontaminated water with electrolyte packets. Prognosis for this disease is good if it is treated early.
