The fame of Pakistani Army in the world is mostly attributed towards its infantry or Land forces, and its chief has always been a key figure in the national strategic affairs. General Raheel Shareef, the present Army Chief has a very charismatic personality. He is the brother of Major Shabbir Shareef Shaheed who is the hero of war of 1971 which was fought against India's aggression.
His father Major Shareef also served as Major in Pak Army and he is also the nephew of Major Raja Aziz Bhatti Shaheed who knocked down the Indian forces at the front of Wahga Border and contributed greatly in saving Lahore, so he had a prominent military background and related to the family of heroes.
General Raheel Shareef comes on number 15 in the series of Pakistani Generals who reached the top slot. He got his initial education from the top educational institution of Lahore, The Government College and joined Military Academy and graduated in 1976. He remained on the posts of commander of 11th Infantry Division, Commander of Pakistan Military Academy and Corps Commander and later as Inspector General for Training and Evaluation. He is considered as an expert in shaping strategies in informal war strategies and fighting against terror.
He also mobilized other colleagues in army and convinced them that terrorists within the country should be dealt with iron hands either they are from TTP (Tehrik i Taliban) or from any other foreign agency.
In view of the current situation of tension between Pak Army and the government of Pakistan in the wake of controversial statements of Ministers of PML-N government and airing of anti-ISI news on Geo Channel, it was being assumed that a new incident of coupe can occur against the government but General Raheel Shareef, in his recent statement, made it clear that he believed in the solidarity of country and progress of democracy in Pakistan.
