With the death of Qazi Hussain Ahmed a big vacuum has been created which will never be filled. He was a great Islamic scholar, Islamic theologian, and an advocate of Islamic democracy. As an Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami he performed his duties with utmost dedication and devotion. In his life time he always raised his voice against the involvement of United States in the civil war of Afghanistan and then against the attack of USA to capture the same country.
He had two sons and two daughters. All the family is fully involved in the activities and development of Jamaat-e-Islami. He was living a simple life in a two-bedroom flat. His native tongue was Pashto but he had full command on English, Urdu, Arabic and Persian. He always quoted the verses from poetry of Allama Iqbal in his speeches as he was a great admirer of the poetry of Allama Iqbal and his thought.
He was born in 1938 at Ziarat, Nowshera in the family of Qazi Muhammad Abdul Rab. He was the descendant of Seljoki Sheikh Hazrat Akhum Adeen or Adyan, Who was the teacher of Hazrat Kaka Sahib and belonged to the period of Khushal Khan Khattak. Qazi Hussain Ahmed was the youngest son of Maulana Qazi Muhammad Abdul Rab. Qazi sahib got his early education in his native town and after that he was admitted to Islamia College, Peshawar and achieved his MSC degree in Geography from Peshawar University. He taught to graduation classes for three years in the same university. He started his own business and was elected Vice President of Provincial Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
His political career started right from his school days after joining Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba, Pakistan. He became a regular member of Jamaat-e-Islami in 1970 and was elected as city president of Peshawar. He was chosen as Secretary and then Ameer of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chapter of Jamaat-e-Islami. He was promoted as Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami pakistan in 1978 and finally he was elected as Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan in 1987 and from there he served till 2008 in that capacity. During that period he was re-elected for four times and this proves the quality of his leadership. In 2008 he refused to be re-elected and then Syed Munawwar Hassan was elected the new President of Jamaat-e-Islami.
On the Political from he got recognized his mettle. He was elected as member Senate in 1986 for a period of six years. He was the Patron of Jamaat-e-Islami wings like Shabab-e-Milli and Pasban. He was re-elected as member senate in March 1992 but resigned in 1996 on account of corrupt political system as a protest. He was elected as National Assembly Member in 2002 from two seats and also worked as leader of the opposition party (Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal).
He played a great role in getting recognized the Afghan Jihad to foreign world and succeeded to get support on international level. He also played his role as mediator in many issues faced by Muslim Ummah. He contributed a lot in Iran-Iraq and Gulf War, in Bosnia crisis and during Post-Soviet Power struggle in Afghanistan. He had personal contacts with many top level Afghan leaders and Mujahideen. He was also elected as Secretary General of Muttahida Shariat Mahaz. Because of his efforts 4.5 million new members came in the folds of Jamaat-e-Islami in 1997 when he launched a countrywide membership campaign.
Qazi Hussain Ahmed died on January 6, 2013 in Islamabad. Heart Attack was reported to be the cause of his death.
