ʾʾGlorified is He Who has created all the pairs of that which the earth produces, as well as of their own (human) kind (male and female), and of that which they know not.ʾʾ {Yaa Seen: 36}

About the talk -

There follows a brief description from the Qurʾaan and Saheeh Sunnah narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) about these three major signs that will precede the Hour and will come at the end of time just before the Day of Resurrection.

The Dajjaal -- a man created by Allaah, who will appear at the end of time because of something that makes Allaah angry. He will spread corruption on earth and will claim divinity, calling on people to worship him. They will be tested by the extraordinary powers that Allaah will grant him, such as causing rain to fall, reviving the earth with vegetation and extracting the treasures of the earth. He will be a young man with a ruddy complexion, short of stature, with curly hair. He will be one-eyed; his right eye will be flat and his other eye will have a thick piece of flesh over it. Written between his eyes will be the word ʾʾKaafirʾʾ (disbeliever). Most of those who follow him will be Jews. He will meet his end at the hands of ʾEesa ibn Maryam (Jesus the son of Mary) who will kill him with a spear in Lod, which is in Palestine.


About the Speaker -

Uthman Lateef has been the Director of the Hittin Institute since March 2008. He has a BA (First Class Hons) in History, an MA (Distinction) in Crusading Studies with a dissertation on religious poetry in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, and is currently completing a PhD in the Muslim literary effort to inspire a yearning for Jerusalem in the twelfth century.

He has been involved in many Islamic organisations, international charitable projects where he has been particularly active in raising awareness about the plight of Muslims in poverty-stricken Africa.

He has spent time studying and travelling in the Middle East since 2001 and is a khateeb in many mosques as well as a popular speaker in universities and community centres.

About the Talk -

Hasad (destructive envy) means wishing that a blessing that Allaah has bestowed on the envied person be taken away. Allaah enjoined His Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) to seek refuge with Him from the evil of the envier when he envies. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

ʾʾSay: ʾI seek refuge with (Allaah), the Lord of the daybreak,

2. ʾFrom the evil of what He has created,

3. ʾAnd from the evil of the darkening (night) as it comes with its darkness; (or the moon as it sets or goes away),

4. ʾAnd from the evil of those who practise witchcraft when they blow in the knots,

5. ʾAnd from the evil of the envier when he envies.ʾʾʾ

[al-Falaq 113]

What is meant by ʾʾwhen he enviesʾʾ is when he manifests what he feels of envy in his heart and acts on it, and his envy makes him do something bad to the one whom he envies.

Hasad is of varying degrees:

1 -- When a person wants the blessing to be taken away from his Muslim brother, even if it does not come to him; rather he does not like Allaah to bless anyone else and that upsets him.

2 -- Where he wants the blessing to be taken away from someone else because he wants it, in the hope that it will come to him.

3 -- Where he wishes for himself a blessing like that which someone else has, without wanting it to be taken away from the other person. This is permissible and is not called hasad rather it is called ghibtah.

The envier harms himself in three ways:

1 -- He earns sin because hasad is haraam.

2 -- It is bad etiquette before Allaah, because what hasad really means is hating Allaahʾs blessing His slaves, and objecting to what Allaah does.

3 -- He suffers because of too much worry and distress.

And Allaah is the Source of strength. May Allaah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions



About the speaker -

Abu Usamah was born in New Jersey in 1964. He embraced Islam in 1986 and went onto studying in the Islamic University of Madina for eight years where he graduated from the College of Daʾwah and Usool-ad-Din.

Abu Usamah has been very active in daʾwah since the day he embraced Islam. He has been the Imam of various mosques in the United States and in the United Kingdom.

His zeal and eagerness in conveying the true message of Islam has lead him to many parts of the world, delivering lectures and seminars, as well as translating for many scholars and duʾaat from the Arab world.

Abu Usamah has been blessed in studying with some of the greatest scholars of our time, to name a few, Shaikh Umar Fulaatah at the Rawdah of the Prophets Mosque, Shaikh Muhammad ʾAtiyyah Saalim (author of Tafsir ʾAdwaa ul-Bayaanʾ), Shaikh Abdullah Muhammad al-Ghunaymaan, Shaikh Muhammad al-Jaami, Shaikh Saalih al-Fawzaan and many more. He was also very fortunate to have spent two summers in intensive study under Shaikh Ibn Baaz and Shaikh Ibn Uthaymin.
