Whooping Cough

Definition

Whooping coughis a disease which is also known as pertussis. Whooping cough is a bacterial diseasecaused by bordetella pertussis. In this disease coughing can make hard to breathe and deep whooping sound is often heard when the patient try to take a breath. This condition is much unpleasant and can easily spread person to person through air from coughing and sneezing. It can occur in any age but usually it attacks on children and young babies.

Causes

Whooping cough is caused by the Bordetella parapertussis or Bordetella pertussis or bacteria. Bacterium also causes the airways to inflame or swell up; making them narrower. This disease can cause permanent disability in infants and even death.Upper respiratory infection or cold is also the cause of this disease.

Symptoms

Initial symptom of this whooping cough is common coldand runny nose but the serious symptoms are start after 10 to 12 day. Some more symptoms are Runny nose, Slight fever, mild cough, sneezing and Diarrhea. Mostly attacks are occurring at night time and vomiting is also very common.

Treatment

Medicines can help the patient's to overcome the disease.Mostly antibiotics are suggested by the doctors and moreover Sedatives medicines can also help the patients to treat this disorder. Cough mixtures, suppressants and expectorants are not useful in whooping cough.
