Karachi – Hub of Financial and Industrial Activities

Karachi is the hub of financial and industrial activity of Pakistan, it is the capital city of the province Sindh. It is the 13th largest metropolitan area of the world. Largest corporation are present here including those that are involved in shipping, textiles, medical research, automobile industry, fashion, entertainment, arts, publishing and software development. One of the region’s largest and busiest port is located here as Port of Karachi or port Bin Qasim. Karachi was the capital of Pakistan prior to Islamabad.
Economy
Karachi is the commercial and financial capital of Pakistan. Headquarters of most public and private banks are in Karachi. The largest stock exchange of Pakistan is Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE). Karachi has seen an expansion of electronic media and information and communication technology. It’s also the software outsourcing hub of Pakistan. In Karachi, there are many development projects going on. Karachi has several large industrial zones including Bin Qasim, Northern Bypass industrial zones, Karachi Export Processing and SITE. Large industrial zones are also located in Karachi. Its primary areas are steel, pharmaceuticals, automobile and textiles.
Media
Most of Pakistan’s independent radio and television station are based in Karachi, including AAJ, Business Plus, Geo, ARY digital, Television Network, and TV ONE.
Architecture

Karachi has various structures of architectural styles and a rich collection of buildings. Various modern style high rise buildings are under construction in Karachi. The construction of two high-density zones, which will host new city skyline, is recently approved by government of Sindh.
Education
Karachi’s literacy rate is estimated the highest in Pakistan. There are five levels of education in Karachi: primary, middle, high, intermediate and university program. Both private and public educational institutes are present here. Pakistan’s largest university known as University of Karachi is situated in Karachi with the population of 24000 students and one of the largest faculties in Pakistan. The oldest business school outside America named as The Institute of Business Administration is also based in Karachi. One of the largest Islamic educational centers of Asia is here for religious education, The Jamia Uloom ul Islamia Banori Town, Karachi.
Transportation

The largest and busiest Airport, Jinnah International Airport is situated in Karachi. The largest number of foreign airlines are received by this airport. Many other airlines from all over the Pakistan use Karachi as a primary transport hub including Airblue, PIA and Shaheen Air International. Pakistan Railways is linked by Karachi to the rest of the country. The two major railway stations of Karachi are Karachi Cantonment Railway Station and Karachi City Station. Karachi’s government has also introduced an initiative to relieve the transport troubles by introducing new CNG buses.
