In this disorder, the patient feels too much pain in the heel. There are 26 bones in the foot and the heel is the largest bone. This pain starts at mild level and usually disappears on its own but in certain cases it becomes chronic.
Mostly heel pain is caused by planter fasciitis, sometime this condition called spur syndrome when a spur, faulty structure of the foot, is present. Individuals, who have problems with their heel, either overly flat feet or high-arched feet, mostly face this problem.
Heel pain may also be caused by infection, trauma and due to an autoimmune problem, arthritis, neurological problem, or some other systemic condition that affects the whole body. Some other causes are abnormal walking style, obesity, injury to the heel such as stress fractures.
The most common symptom is the pain under the foot, and the other symptoms are: pain on the bottom of the heel, pain that is usually worse upon arising and pain in the arch of the foot that increases over a period of months.
Treatments are foot message, flexibility exercises, ultrasound therapy and shoe inserts to support the foot. Anti-inflammatory drugs are also suggested by the doctors. In some cases, surgery may be recommended to treat the heel pain.
