A pet cat is a wonderfully playful, intelligent, independent and affectionate creature. As the owner of the cat, you are totally responsible for providing him with basic healthcare. Some of the things you need to consider for pet care are: 

Safety and security of your pet cat

For your pet’s safety, keep the cat inside your property and while walking outside put him on leash. Use a cat carrier for moving him and screen all the windows of your home to protect your pet. Ensure that the doors of washer and dryer are kept closed and before using these equipments, always check that your cat is not hiding inside. Develop the habit of checking to see that the drawers, closets, and cupboards are unoccupied before you shut them. 

Identification of your cat

Although you are very careful, there is always a chance that your cat may sneak outside. For your cat’s safe return home, it is necessary that he has a ID that has your contact details (name, address and telephone number). Also, as a good citizen follow the local cat licensing laws.

Regular visit to the veterinarian

You can refer to your local animal shelter, rescue group or a friend who has a pet for locating a veterinarian. Healthcare is very much required for your pet cat. Ensure that you take him to the veterinarian frequently for health checks and he is up-to-date on his shots.

Provide nutritional food and plenty of fresh water 

Try to understand the nutritional requirements of your cat or consult the veterinarian regarding what food you should give and how many times you should feed him daily. Now and then, change his food and also mix it so that your pet does not get tired of eating same food daily.  Also, give him adequate water to drink.

Place a clean garbage box 

Cats by nature are fastidious, and most will automatically use a litter box if they are provided with one. Remove the wastes minimum one time every day and frequently clean the box with dish washing liquid and hot water. Put the garbage box in a quiet place as cats like privacy.

Regular Grooming

Your cat can have long or short hair. You should brush his hair regularly to keep his coat and skin well, stop matting, and lessen shedding and hairballs. You should also clip his claws to prevent him from developing in his paw. While grooming your pet, you get a good chance to find out any lumps, fleas, injuries of your cat and bond with him.

Give him your time and love 

Cats frequently amuse themselves. However, if you play regularly with your cat, this will give him the mental and physical stimulation he needs and reinforce the loving relationship you have. You can provide him toys and scratching posts to divert his attention from your domestic goods. However, you should remember that he also needs your love and affection.

Training your pet cat

You can teach your cat not to do things like scratching the sofa, consuming plants, or climbing on the kitchen counter. You can teach your cat the home rules by gentle, repeated and consistent training. You need to be patient and your expectations from your cat should be reasonable. Also, remember that most problems can be solved.

Your pet cat can act independently but he still depends on you for essentials like food, water, shelter, veterinary care, and so forth for a healthy life. You also need to give him your love and time for a rewarding relationship with your pet.

What provoked me to write an article is I just don't know what to say, either I should shout or just stay away from pets. My family and I are very found of cats just recently we got ourselves involved with dealer and breeders and had a heavy loss. Lost the heart…… thought never ever to go look back. Would never recall this incident again but tonight I’m writing with complete responsibility and knowing the consequences. And today I wanted to know why was I cheated in the first place ppl like a professional dealer (found his ad in newspaper) and a breeder, was told by a vet. Isn’t there any kind of law or justice that can put an end to animal butchers like these can be brought to any justice????

And as my kids watched their pet suffered and died we did our best to give them proper medical and care. But having the best vet and medicine at my disposal I couldn't save those innocent lives. And the sad truth I wanted a healthy kitten for my family but ppl cheated me.

In Lahore I couldn't find myself a single family who had a kitten that was healthy or were animal lovers this has turned more into a business games and nobody cares for these little creatures anymore they pretend they do but they don't. And what is more frustrating nobody out there is willing to provide you with a proper contact numbers or any information. One breeder will never refer you to another if they don't have a certain breed that you’re looking for. Have we forgotten our roots/morals and foundations as a Muslims???

As the owner of your pet, you will try to provide the best possible food to your pet. Certain factors that will help you in choosing proper food for your dog are:

The age of your dog –select nutritional food that is geared to his age; puppy, adult, or senior.

Dog’s state of health –Choose food that fits your dog's requirements, either his weight control, performance, or maintenance.

His health condition – if your dog suffers from health problems like diabetes, allergies, cancer or digestive troubles, select food that is suitable for that condition.

Funds kept for buying pet food – Provide your pet the highest quality food that you can afford.

Consider food suitable for your dog

There is no single best food for every dog. Some may prefer dry and some canned food. Most of the dry foods are not of high quality and the elements can differ considerably from product to product. Organic dog food is a healthy choice as it does not have any harmful ingredients such as pesticides or preservatives. Another healthy choice is raw dog food. It is natural food containing vital enzymes that help digestion. You can add some fresh food to the diet you feed like eggs, meat, canned fish, dairy products and healthy leftovers. This will improve the quality of the diet.

Fortunately, nowadays various well-formulated dog foods are available in the market, and it is better to try several to decide which one suits your dog best.

Look for the right ingredients

While choosing food for your dog, look at the ingredient list at the back of the product. Seek dog food having meat, fish, or eggs as the first ingredient. They are edible and the food is a good source of protein and contains some vital amino acids. When you wish to feed a new food to the pet, change it gradually so that your pet adjusts to it.

Ensure that the ‘meat’ mentioned as the ingredient is ‘named meat’. The ‘meat’ mentioned in the dog food is normally not meat, but animal by products. A good quality dog food should also not have grain in it. Grain cannot be easily digested by dogs and so cause digestive problems. A healthier component is ground barley or brown rice. Look for fruits and vegetables rich in nutrition like sweet potato, carrots and apples and Omega6 and Vitamin A, D, E, B6, B12

Major pet food categories

The three main types of pet dog food are:

Grocery store foods – They are available in grocery stores and mass-market retailers. They normally contain cheap, less-edible, low-cost ingredients and are so cost less.

Premium foods – They are available in grocery stores, pet stores, and veterinarian offices. They include high quality ingredients, but may contain some components of grocery store food, like synthetic colours and artificial flavours. They are normally more expensive than grocery store foods and more useful and eatable.

Healthy foods – this is the latest addition to the pet food market. It can be bought online or directly from the manufacturer. This food contains the best nutritional ingredients without artificial preservatives, flavours, or colours. They are more expensive, but they cause less illness and you need to feed less.

After you have done your best to provide healthy food to your pet, check your dog’s health after feeding him for about a month. If he has sparkling eyes, radiant skin and strong energy level, you know that you have selected the right food for your pet. Additionally, you can take the advice of a veterinary if in doubt.
