When it comes to dining out or eating out in Pakistan and especially in Lahore, you are most likely to have more than thousand choices. It depends upon the choice and mood of certain people at certain times. I personally believe that one should eat at different places from 5 star hotel to a road side Dhaba (a makeshift small hotel). Every place has its own peculiar taste and ambiance. The service also varies from place to place. Sometimes in a five star hotel you have to wait for your order for a long time and in a small eatery you get your stuff instantly and moreover the waiter is ready to serve you within seconds.

Moreover you get most of the time fresh food and oven hot bread (Roti)

Star Rated Hotels:

There is a particular class which visits the 5 star hotels and there are delegates and employees of multinational companies which go there more often. The food quality which Lahorites expect and relish cannot be attained from the 5 star hotels. There are many Star Rated Hotels like, Pearl Continental, Avari, Ambassador Hotel, Holiday Inn, Park Plaza Hotel, Hotel One etc. They are best known for their discipline, cleanliness and good corporate service but in my opinion one does not go there especially to have his lunch or dinner. But once in a while one should give it a try just for change of taste.

Walled City Culture

The original inhabitants of Lahore are mostly in the Walled city limits within the historical gates of Lahore. Most of the population of Lahore takes its breakfast from outside of their homes. Their choices include Sri Payay (head and feet of the goat), Murgh Channay, Bong Payay (Tender part of the leg of the cow). They like to have it with piping hot Naans fresh and hot from the earthen ovens. The famous and oldest place in Lahore for such food is Lakshmi Chowk which remains open till very late at night. There are other places like Lahore Fort, Gawalmandi Food Street, Anarkali Food Street where Lahori Food can be taken.

Chinese Restaurants:

There is another choice and that are Chinese Restaurants which are maintaining their grip since the creation of Pakistan. They usually attract plenty of customers in winter season but in summer too there are sufficient number of customers in evenings. Some of the famous Chinese hotels are Taiwah, Lung Fung, Hong Kong, Shanghais, Mandarin etc.

The M.M. Alam Road Attraction

Too many restaurants or eateries have been established on the M.M. Alam Road.

One idea by the government was to make it a walking street keeping in view the number of restaurants and eateries. Almost every food chain has its branch there on M.M. Alam Road, Including Pizza Hut, KFC, Subway, Guns and Smoke etc. Famous hotels include Village restaurant, Mirchi, Dhaba, Kings and Queens, Two Potatoes and there are many others competing with each other. Everyone has its own attraction including Service, Food quality, ambiance and cutlery etc.

Make Shift or Dhaba Eateries:

In the last one option which thousands of Lahorites use daily is the roadside makeshift hotels, having some rug mats, two to three benches and a cart loaded with big pots of Haleem, Chanay and Pulao rice etc.

Too many people tend to eat from these eateries and they never even hesitate to sit on the footpaths on mats to eat their lunch or dinner.

These are the cheapest option available now but with dearness increasing they will also soon be out of reach of the poor people.

Being in Lahore is amazing for food lovers. People come from US, UK, Europe and Middle East and never forget to eat from 5 Star Hotel to a Dhaba on the roadside.

It is true that one who has not seen Lahore has not been born yet.
