Benazir Bhutto – The Charismatic Leader of the Bhutto Family

Born on June 21, 1953, in Karachi, Benazir Bhutto was the daughter of former pime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. She got inherited the leadership from his father after Zia ulHaq lodged a military coup and overthrew the government of his father and also got him executed by the judiciary in a controversial case of murder of an opponent Politician Nawab Ahmed Khan Kasuri. She came to Pakistan in 1986 and was welcomed warmly and with enthusiasm by the Pakistani public and supporters of PPP. She got elected as first female Prime Minister of Pakistan in 1988.

Benazir Bhutto was a highly educated leader She got her higher education from United States and United Kingdom. She studied comparative government systems, International law and diplomacy. Benazir Bhutto has to face three tragedies in her life time, the murders of her father and the mysterious killings of his two brothers. His brother Shahnawaz was mysteriously killed by unknown people in his house in 1980 at Riviera. According to the suspicions by her family he was poisoned to death. His another brother Mir Murtaza Bhutto was also killed in a cross fire with the Police in Karachi and this time she was in power and there are many suspicions and allegations are on record (though without any evidence) that his murder was plotted by his husband Asif Ali Zardari.

Benazir got wedded with Asif Ali Zardari in Karachi on 18th December, 1987. There are three children from this marriage namely the son Bilawal, and two daughters Asifa and Bakhtawar.
Benazir Bhutto rose to power two times firstly in 1988 after the plane crash of General ZialulHaq but lost the next elections in 1990 and then she further won in 1993 but again this time her government was terminated in 1996. She went to self-exile to live in UK and Dubai and from there she controlled her party. She came back to Pakistan in 2007 after getting general amnesty from General Musharraf along with many other politicians also including Nawaz Sharif. She led a huge rally but her truck was hit by a suicide attach but she escaped narrowly. She was again attacked in Rawalpindi when she was waving her hand to her supporters from the roof window of her vehicle when the target killers shot her and this time she could not escape and died on reaching hospital. BaitullahMahsud was nominated as accused but he denied the charges.
Still there is not strong investigation going on although the husband of the targeted prime minister was on the highest seat of Pakistan for five years. This mystery will be solved or not. God knows better!.
